On 30 November 2025, Darren Smith gave an Artist Talk at the Fotoboeken Festival in the Rietveldpaviljoen, Amersfoort. The four-day festival celebrated the craft and storytelling of contemporary photobooks, making it an ideal setting for Darren’s work and process.
During his talk with interviewer Wouter Zaalberg, Darren reflected on the evolution of the Mayflies series, exploring the book as a celebration, observation of humanity, and manifesto.
Darren’s photographs were also selected for the festival’s group show, adding another layer to his participation. His personal highlight was connecting individually and engaging with the broader community of makers and photobook enthusiasts.
