Tribute to 'radical self-expression'

I was thrilled to see Mayflies featured in de Trouw, one of the Netherlands’ leading newspapers. The article beautifully captures the essence of the project— "The sexy nurse, the scary clown, or the superhero: these are just a few costume clichés that everyone has seen during carnival or Halloween. But if you want to catch the attention of photographer Darren Smith (1984), you have to come from a different place. For his book Mayflies, he photographed the most eccentric festival and street parade visitors worldwide for eight years [...]The portraits of Smith also invite reflection on your own potential alter ego. Who would you like to be in a temporary fairy-tale world where anything is possible?"

I’m grateful for this recognition and for the opportunity to share the Mayflies journey with a wider audience. Thank you to de Trouw for the thoughtful coverage!
